Grants to attend congress

The GCNA holds an annual congress at a different location each year, usually in June, lasting about four days. Congress events include recitals, presentations, workshops, business meetings and social opportunities.

Congress registration fees are typically in the range of $200-300. The GCNA is pleased to offer grants to cover the costs of congress registration fees for the following three groups of members:

A. First-time Congress Attendees

Congress registration grants are available to a person who is:

  1. attending their first GCNA Congress; [only in-person congresses are taken into account for the purposes of this criterion]
  2. a North American resident;
  3. an individual member of the GCNA in good standing; and
  4. not receiving reimbursement for the Congress registration fee from another source (e.g. institution where you work or study).

The congress registration grants for first-time congress attendees are made possible through the generous bequest of the late Sally Slade Warner.

B. New Associate "AC" Members

Congress registration grants are available to successful Associate Carillonneur Exam candidates to attend Congress within two years of achieving AC status.

To be eligible for the grant, the person:

  1. must have passed their Associate Carillonneur exam within the last two years;
  2. must be a North American resident;
  3. must be an individual member of the GCNA in good standing; and
  4. must not be receiving reimbursement for the Congress registration fee from another source (e.g. institution where you work or study).

C. New Carillonneur Members

Congress registration grants are available to successful advancement exam candidates to attend Congress twice in the three years following their advancement, in order to participate in recitals featuring New Members.

To be eligible for the grant, the person:

  1. must have passed their advancement exam within the last three years; [special note: due to the cancellation of in-person congresses during the pandemic, members of the class of 2018 are eligible for the grant to attend either the 2022 or 2023 congresses or both; and members of the classes of 2019 and 2020 are eligible for the grant to attend two of the 2022, 2023 and 2024 congresses]
  2. must be a North American resident;
  3. must be an individual member of the GCNA in good standing; and
  4. must not be receiving reimbursement for the Congress registration fee from another source (e.g. institution where you work or study).

Note: The congress host's invitation to perform at congress is a separate process from this application for a congress registration grant (funded by the GCNA). Even if you have accepted an invitation to perform, you must still complete this application to receive a registration grant, and then you must actually register.

GRANT APPLICATION PROCEDURE

If you are applying for a grant, please do NOT register for congress until you receive approval for the grant.

To apply for a grant, please complete this online form by the grant application deadline of April 15. You will be asked to confirm that you meet each of the 4 criteria in the category that you are applying under.

Once your eligibility is verified, you will receive a registration fee waiver code. Use that code to register for congress by the early bird registration deadline of April 20, and the GCNA will pay your registration fee on your behalf.
